Paranoia on Sale for Ya!

Media hyped up the snow forecast panic in T.O. with photos like this on Feb. 23, 2012.
Next day... there was hardly any snow at all. Photo courtesy of KISS 92.5.

What’s up with all this constant scare—
Why not to act;
What not to wear;
Where not to play;
How not to write;
When not to help;
Whom not to fight?

What’s up with all these threats
and panic?
Making us all stressed out and manic—
It’s gonna rain!
It’s gonna snow!
This gives you that!
That hurts you so!

We are drowning in advertising.
To be afraid is mesmerizing.
Fear is on sale—
Locally made;
Take a test drive,
Don’t be afraid!

On the Death of Whitney Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012)

Whitney Houston passed away.
Another talent cast away,
One more unnecessary death,
Another song is out of breath.

I'll never be fourteen again.
But I'll remember Whitney when
She laughed and called to dance with her...
Her life was wrecked. She's dead. What for?

Five-Year Anniversary

Yours truly has just celebrated a five-year anniversary at his place of work. During the award ceremony I was asked to say a few words. Here is what came to mind....

What is five years,
Joking aside?
No longer a baby -
child running wild.

But in dog years
That's thirty-five!
Good time to ponder
Why you're alive.

And when in doubt,
Clear your head,
Keep the ship steady -
Full steam ahead!

Charles Dickens’ 200th birthday

It was the best of times,
It was the worst of times —
Days of juicy, sweet apples,
Nights of sour limes.
It’s been 200 years
And the Clock still chimes.
Dickens could write of this age,
If he knew of our crimes.

Children still going hungry,
And still working as slaves,
Drinking from muddy rivers,
Living in dark, cold caves.
Dickens is buried in London -
It was the populous call.
People keep reading his novels,
But are they learning at all?
